Archdiocese of Miami

Established in 1958 as a diocese and elevated to an archdiocese in 1968, the Archdiocese of Miami covers Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe Counties across South Florida's tip. Its cathedral is the Cathedral of Saint Mary in Miami. The archdiocese's 118 parishes serve one of the most historically layered Catholic communities in the country — shaped profoundly by the Cuban exodus of the 1960s, when its Catholic Charities operation sheltered over 14,000 unaccompanied Cuban children in what became known as Operation Peter Pan.
