Archdiocese of New York

The Archdiocese of New York was established in 1808 as a diocese and elevated to an archdiocese in 1850, covering Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, and seven Hudson Valley counties stretching north to Sullivan and Ulster. Its 365 parishes are anchored by Saint Patrick's Cathedral on Fifth Avenue, one of the most recognizable Catholic churches in the United States. The St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Shrine in Washington Heights draws pilgrims from across the country to the first U.S. citizen canonized as a saint.
