The Diocese of La Crosse was established on March 3, 1868, covering 19 counties across west-central Wisconsin — nearly 15,000 square miles of river bluffs, farmland, and northwoods. The cathedral church is Saint Joseph the Workman in La Crosse. With roughly 170 parishes, the diocese is also home to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a nationally recognized Marian pilgrimage site affiliated by Pope Benedict XVI with the papal basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome.
