Diocese of Lexington

Established by Pope John Paul II on January 14, 1988, the Diocese of Lexington covers 50 counties across central and eastern Kentucky — a region where Catholic roots stretch back to Maryland settlers who arrived in 1785. The cathedral church is the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington. With roughly 62 parishes spread across a largely rural landscape, the diocese serves one of the smaller Catholic populations in the country, making up just over 2% of the region.
