Diocese of Marquette

Explore 92 Catholic parishes, up-to-date schedules, and livestream options in the diocese.

The Diocese of Marquette was established in 1853 as the Vicariate Apostolic of Upper Michigan and elevated to a full diocese in 1857, taking its current name in 1937. It covers all 15 counties of Michigan's Upper Peninsula — one of the most geographically remote Catholic dioceses in the contiguous United States. Its 93 parishes are served from St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette, built in 1864 with the cornerstone laid by the diocese's founding bishop, Frederic Baraga, a Slovenian-born missionary renowned for his work among the Ojibwe people.
