Diocese of Monterey

Erected in its current form in 1967 when the Diocese of Monterey-Fresno was divided, the Diocese of Monterey spans California's central coast across Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, and San Luis Obispo counties — home to about 57 parishes. The Cathedral of San Carlos Borromeo in Monterey stands on the site of California's oldest stone church, and the diocese holds seven of California's 21 historic Franciscan missions, more than any other diocese in the state.
