Diocese of Providence
Explore 139 Catholic parishes, up-to-date schedules, and livestream options in the diocese.
The Diocese of Providence was established in 1872 by Pope Pius IX, taking all of Rhode Island from the Diocese of Hartford. It now serves 139 parishes across the state. The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence, a Neo-Romanesque structure designed by Patrick Keely and consecrated in 1889, serves as the mother church. The Shrine of the Little Flower in Nasonville is the only officially recognized Catholic shrine in Rhode Island, drawing pilgrims since 1923.
