Diocese of Raleigh

The Diocese of Raleigh was established in 1924 by Pope Pius XI and covers the eastern half of North Carolina, a territory carved from the original statewide diocese when the Diocese of Charlotte was created in 1972. With around 101 parishes, it is anchored by the Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral in Raleigh, dedicated in 2017. The diocese has deep roots in missionary history — Thomas Frederick Price, North Carolina's first native Catholic priest, spent his life evangelizing this region in the late 1800s.
