LENTEN REGULATIONS 2026 Weekdays of Lent There is no obligation to fast. However, voluntary acts of self-denial are strongly recommended. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday These are days of fasting and abstinence from meat. Fasting is obligatory for all between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. Days of Abstinence: (All Fridays in Lent) All who have reached their 14th year are bound to abstain totally from meat.

One day, Jesus chose three of His friends — Peter , James , and John —and took them up a tall mountain to pray. The climb was long and tiring. The disciples felt sleepy. But something amazing was about to happen! As Jesus prayed, His face began to shine like the sun. His clothes became bright and sparkling white brighter than any light they had ever seen! Jesus looked full of glory. This special moment is called the Transfiguration . Suddenly, two important men from the Bible appeared beside Him —Moses and Elijah . They talked with Jesus about God 's plan. Peter was so excited he said, "Lord, it is good that we are here! Let 's build three tents —one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah! " While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them. They were a little afraid. Then a voice from the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him. " It was God the Father! The disciples fell to the ground, scared. But Jesus touched them gently and said, "Do not be afraid. " When they looked up, Jesus looked normal again. As they walked down the mountain, Jesus told them not to tell anyone what they had seen until later. On the Second Sunday of Lent, we remember that: Jesus is truly God 's Son. Even when things are hard (like climbing a mountain), God has a beautiful plan. We should listen to Jesus. We do not need to be afraid when Jesus is with us.
