Priesthood/Religious Life: If you would like to serve God by preaching the Word of Salvation, by celebrating the Sacraments and by serving those in need, you may have a vocation to the priesthood. In eastern Guatemala, in the Dry Corridor of Central America, the land has been without rain for months. The air is heavy with heat. The earth is cracked, thirsty, seemingly exhausted. And yet, in this season of scarcity, the Guayacán Tree blooms - deeply rooted, slow-growing, alive with violet flowers. It is when the land is most barren that the Guayacán reveals its beauty. Jesus invites us to pray, to fast, and to give alms not on the surface of life, but in secret - from the depths of the heart: "Your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you." (Matthew 6:4). Lent is not a performance. It is a return - a journey inward. We live in a world that rushes, consumes, and skims the surface of things. Yet the Gospel gently interrupts our haste and whispers: go deeper. The Guayacán does not hurry. It grows slowly - sometimes only a millimeter a year - sending its roots downward before stretching outward. Its strength is born in patience, restraint, and trust in hidden waters. So too with us. Lent invites us to return to the heart - the place where God already waits. In this sacred season, the scattered pieces of our lives are gathered again. In prayer, we drink from the Living Water that sustains hope even as ecological and social crises deepen. In fasting, we loosen our grip on what is superfluous, making space for what truly gives life. In almsgiving, we remember that we are bound to one another, and that love becomes real when it is shared. A heart rooted in God learns to live more simply, more justly, and more gently within the limits of creation. May this Lent help us grow deep roots, choose life-giving limits, and discover anew the quiet joy of a heart at rest in God. (Excerpts from laudatosimovement.org)
