On Saturday, June 5th, the women of CCW were pleased to present to Father Gabriel Ghanoum a donation in the amount of $1500 in support of his ministry, No One Buried Alone (NOBA). The memorial service which was held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, honored an additional 100 unclaimed individuals in memory of Victoria Scalia, whose passing inspired the founding of this ministry. For the last 15 years, Father Gabriel's work through NOBA has ensured that no one is buried without dignity, prayer, and human presence. Since its inception, the mission has provided a dignified burial for more than 20,000 individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and faiths. CCW is pleased to support the work of Father Gabriel. It is necessary to renew my strength, so that I will not stop along the way and for that, I need You. It is getting late and death approaches, I fear the darkness, the temptations, the dryness, the cross, the sorrows. O how I need You, my Jesus, in this night of exile! Stay with me tonight, Jesus, in life with all its dangers, I need You. Let me recognize You as Your disciples did at the breaking of the bread, so that the Eucharistic Communion be the Light which disperses the darkness, the force which sustains me, the unique joy of my heart. Stay with me, Lord, because at the hour of my death, I want to remain united to You, if not by Communion, at least by grace and love. Stay with me, Lord, for it is You alone I look for, Your Love, Your Grace, Your Will, Your Heart, Your Spirit, because I love You and ask no other reward but to love You more and more. With a firm love, I will love You with all my heart while on earth and continue to love You perfectly during all eternity. Amen.

Meeting People Where They Are When Jesus entered Capernaum in Matthew 8, He didn't wait for people to earn His help. He met them exactly where they were broken. He encountered a Roman centurion—an outsider, an enemy occupier—and a suffering servant. Jesus didn't look at status, worthiness, or background. He saw human suffering, and His immediate response was: 'I will come and cure him. This is the exact heartbeat of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. We do not judge. We do not qualify. A HOUSE IS MORE THAN A ROOF OVER ONE'S HEAD RENTING OFTEN NO LONGER OCCURS IN A "FREE MARKET" PEACE works for justice by holding government officials accountable. But why is government even involved? You may be surprised to know that those renting apartments often operate outside of what you might think of as the "free market." Rising rents in the U.S. are a complex problem, causing a severe lack of affordable housing. One factor contributing to higher rents is the concentration in ownership of those buildings. According to a report by the Private Equity Stakeholder Project, corporate private equity firms - not the Mom and Pop landlords who also struggle to make ends meet - now own at least 11,800 apartment buildings with almost 3 million units, or approximately 13% of all apartment units in the U.S. Often they buy buildings funded by federal low-income housing tax credits, and once the federal rent restrictions expire, they increase rents dramatically. Blackstone spent $5 billion buying low income housing in 2021 alone. Some corporate private equity firms use software called RealPage. In January 2025, the Dept. of Justice and 10 states sued Blackstone, Cortland, and Greystar for creating a'cartel' by using that landlord information to create price-setting algorithms. In 2024, the Council of Economic Advisors found that rent inflation by users of RealPage cost renters more than $3.6 billion. RealPage was used to price about half of the 3000,000 apartments in South Florida. Catholic Social Teaching has long addressed the deep impact of the lack of affordable housing. "We are convinced that a house is much more than a simple roof over one's head. The place where a person creates and lives out his or her life also serves to found, in some way, that person's deepest identity and his or her relation with others."
