A Message from Fr. Blood

It's a gift to belong to one another. My birthday is July 4th, and I've never been a big birthday celebration person, but with it lining up with a federal holiday there's always fireworks, barbecues, and parades. There are so many memories of family gatherings on that day - but why are those memories special? They weren't memories lived alone.

There can be a temptation to think about our spiritual life as one lived in isolation, but the real delight of our faith isn't what we do privately. Yes, quiet individual prayer is essential, but how that individual prayer informs our relationships makes a difference. Although for some, faith is something that just washes over us, I want to invite an intentionality this week, and this summer. Rather than compartmentalizing our faith, take notice of those around you. It can be small; smiling at the people you don't know who've sat behind you at Mass for years, asking how someone is really doing rather than allowing that question to be a throw away hello, or generally responding when the Holy Spirit prompts your heart to make a move. My prayer as we make our way through summer, is that we might be inspired to choose belonging, both in our spiritual living, and in our day to day.
