A Pastoral Message on Our Nation's Anniversary

This year our nation celebrates its 250th anniversary—its semiquincentennial. As we mark this historic milestone, we give thanks for the many blessings we enjoy as a people while also recognizing the responsibility we share to care for one another and to work for the common good.

Rooted in the image of journey and pilgrimage, our Christian faith reminds us that our time on this side of heaven is limited. We are pilgrims who seek to build God's Kingdom through lives of faith, hope, and charity. As we recall the sacrifices and struggles of the men and women who secured and defended our nation's freedom, may we honor their memory with profound reverence and heartfelt gratitude. May their example inspire us to cherish the freedoms we have been given and to use them wisely in service to God and to our neighbor.

As we celebrate this anniversary, let us also pray for our nation:

Lord God, You have blessed our country with abundant gifts and countless opportunities. As we celebrate 250 years of our nation's history, help us never to take these blessings for granted. Heal the divisions that separate us, strengthen the bonds that unite us, and inspire us to seek the common good before our own interests.

As sons and daughters of St. Augustine, may we always pursue Truth with humility, foster Unity through understanding and reconciliation, and live Love by serving one another with generous hearts. May these values guide our families, our parish, our community, and our nation.

May the Holy Spirit grant wisdom to our leaders, courage to those who protect our freedoms, compassion to all who care for those in need, and hope to every heart. May God continue to bless the United States of America, and may we always strive to be a people worthy of His blessings.
