From the Desk of Fr. Dave...

As we begin this month of May, we remember our two greatest saints, Saint Joseph and Saint Mary. Saint Joseph is a very powerful saint right behind his wife Saint Mary. This is evidenced by the fact that many great saints prayed with St. Joseph. Joseph, along with Mary, is the saint of the saints!

May 1, or "May Day," is celebrated throughout the Communist world as a way of supposedly honoring the importance of laborers in Marxist countries. The Communist concept of work as almost an end in itself was countered by the Christian understanding of service to God and neighbor when Pope Pius XII instituted the memorial of St. Joseph the Worker in 1955. Joseph, the husband of Mary and the foster-father of Jesus, spent a lifetime laboring as a carpenter. His primary motivation for working was a desire to serve God and to care for his family in a loving way.

We also have May Crowning during this month. The fifth Glorious Mystery is the Crowning of Mary as Queen of Heaven. Psalm 45:10-16 says, "The queen stands at your right hand, arrayed in gold." As our queen, Mary intercedes for us to Christ the King. From this, much grace flows.
