Adore the Lord as he processes on Cajun water and soil. This annual Eucharistic Procession by boat on the waters of the Teche on the Feast of the Assumption recalls our rich Acadian history and, in a way, re-enacts the journey made by the Acadians over 250 years ago. - Begins with French Mass by Bishop John Douglas Deshotel, D.D., Bishop of Lafayette, at St. Leo's in Leonville at 8:00 am - Procession to Landing at 9:00 am, Boat Procession departs at 9:30 am - Stops at Each Church on the Bayou: Arnaudville, Cecilia, Breaux Bridge, Parks for Rosary and Benediction - Disembark and Process into Notre Dame, St. Martinville for Benediction - Process in St. Martin de Tours for Benediction - Process Down Main Street to Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel for Vespers and Benediction - · Confessions will be Available at All Stops Along the Teche

Obituaries June 2026

ELOY J. PLACER, 73 Eloy Placer was laid to rest at Lafayette Memorial Park following a Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral on June 4th. The Very Reverend Chester Arceneaux was the officiant. A graduate of Cathedral Carmel High, Eloy enjoyed a distinguished career in the insurance industry. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Judy, his children, Patrick and Maggie and two grandchildren.

VELMA FONTENOT ANDRUS, 95 Cathedral of St. John was the site of the Funeral Mass held for Velma Andrus who passed away at the age of 95. The Very Reverend Chester Arceneaux served as celebrant of the Mass. She is survived by her children, Benny, Michael and Julie, 10 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Benny Andrus, Sr.

CAROLYN BIRD ROMERO, 80 Funeral services were held on June 5th at the Cathedral of St. John for Carolyn Romero who passed away at the age of 80. The Very Reverend Chester Arceneaux celebrated the Funeral Mass. Born in Mississippi, she grew up in Texas and eventually made Lafayette her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Russell Romero. She is survived by her two sons, Jason and Jordan, and her four grandchildren.

ROBERT "BOBBY" JOHN, SR., 89 A mass of Christian Burial was held on June 19th for Bobby John who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Bishop Emeritus Sam G. Jacobs officiated the Mass. Born and raised in Crowley, Bobby went on to co-found J&J Exterminating with his brother. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta. He is survived by his two children, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
