Men's Summer Bonfire
Men of HNOJ - It's finally summer! Time to gather around a good summer bonfire. Join other men of HNOJ at our Men's Summer Bonfires. NEW this year - all men's bonfires will be held on campus at HNOJ. As in past years this is a BYO-Everything event. Bring a lawn chair, whatever you'd like to sip during the event, and a snack to share if you can. Please register for each date; you may attend one or all of the bonfires. Registration is helpful to organizers, but walk-ins are always welcome. The Men's Summer Bonfires are the perfect event to bring a buddy, neighbor, coworker, or relative. The bonfires will be fun, easy to join events. These nights are great for meeting other guys in the parish and get together with old friends too.

Healing the Whole Person Virtual Retreat
This weeklong, virtual experience from the John Paul II Healing Center allows you to begin or continue your healing journey from the comfort of your home, local chapel, or other safe space. HNOJ Golf Scramble
The HNOJ Golf Scramble is back again for its 8th year and will once again be held at the beautiful Rush Creek Golf Club on Wednesday, Sept. 9, with a 12 pm shotgun start. Registration for this year's event is now open, and more details can be found by visiting the event website at hnoj.org/golf. Space is limited to 144 golfers and last year's event sold out quickly. Proceeds from the event will continue to support the security initiatives.

The Grace to Grow

For the last 10+ years I have been teaching Faith Formation at my parish, and most of that time, I have taught second grade. I enjoy teaching this grade and the best part is that I get to help the kids get ready for their First Reconciliation and First Communion. Because it is a big sacrament year, some of my students will be attending Faith Formation for the first time ever. This makes it interesting as I will have some kids who know about the Catholic faith while others do not. This can be frustrating for some teachers, but I see it as an opportunity to share in the work of God, the Sower.
To be a good catechist and Catholic, I too must take time to cultivate my soil. The reality of today's world is that we are often overcome by distractions, concerns, and the busyness of life. This can lead us to become less than ideal soil for planting. Even though God knows that our soil is not perfect, He continues to sow seed that will help us grow and be fruitful. While we might have that seed stolen by others, scorched by the hardness of life, or choked off by worldly things, God does not stop planting seeds. Just as I see the potential of growth in my students, God sees that with us.
We can cultivate good soil through the sacraments, attending Mass weekly, prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Through the sacraments, we share in the Divine Life of Jesus and when we share in His life, we become more like Him in thought, word, and deed. By attending Mass weekly, we not only receive the Eucharist, but we join others in prayer and worship of God. Through daily prayer, we develop a relationship with God that leads us to understand and serve Him better. By fasting, we learn to turn away from the comforts of the world and instead turn to God for our needs. Finally, through almsgiving, we learn to love as Jesus did by providing for the needs of others either financially or by donating our time and talent.
Like my second-grade students, we are all here to learn and grow. The Parable of the Sower helps us to see those areas where we might be lacking and need to tend to our soil. Today, I would like to encourage you to ask God to show you where your soil needs help and give you the grace to grow the seed.
