To become a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Passaic, NJ, please register at the parish office. Certificates for godparents, confirmation sponsors, and other documents will be issued after three months of parish membership and fulfilling obligations. All Catholics are obliged to attend Sunday and Holy Day Masses and support the parish through offerings. Annual parishioner fees are: Families $20, Singles $10. Parishioner status is granted to those 25 years or older who meet parish obligations. Families who change their address should inform the parish office.

Saint Benedict was born in Nursia (central Italy) around 480 AD. After studying in Rome, he retreated to a hermitage near Subiaco, where he was guided by Saint Roman in Christian asceticism. His reputation for holiness grew, attracting disciples. He founded monasteries governed by the Rule of Saint Benedict, known for its rigor in achieving religious perfection through self-control, mortification, humility, obedience, prayer, and withdrawal from worldly concerns. This rule became foundational for monastic life in Western Europe. In 529, Benedict established a major abbey at Monte Cassino, which became a center of religious life. His sister, Saint Scholastica, founded the Benedictine nuns nearby. Benedict died on March 21, 543, after receiving communion, making him the patron saint of a good death. Pope Paul VI declared him patron of Europe in 1964. His attributes include a book, a raven with poisoned bread, a bundle of rods, and a chalice with a serpent. Saint Benedict had great devotion to the Holy Cross, using it to overcome temptations. The Benedictine Medal, featuring his image and a cross with inscriptions, became popular throughout Catholic Europe.
