- Catholic Services Appeal 2026 As of Monday, February 23rd, OLP had 244pledges for \$156,165. We have almost reached our Diocesan Assessment of \$160,000 and at almost 75% of our parish goal of \$210,000. Remember that everything raised over what we contribute to the Diocesan Church will be put toward our Parish Vision and Renovation Plan. Please make a pledge if you have not already done so and thank you to those that have! - During Lent we will be ending Masses with no hymn; just instrumental music as a way to encourage more silence in this season. Please be considerate of those who may want to take a moment of prayer in their pews as you depart. - Lenten Confessions In addition to our normal weekly confession times (Wednesdays from 11:15am-Noon, Saturdays from 8:30-9am and 3:45-4:45pm) we will have extra opportunities throughout Lent. They are Fridays from 6-7pm (before Stations) and after all Sunday Masses including 4:30pm. "The Light is On for You" is Wednesday, April 9th from 5-7pm (local churches are open and priests hearing confessions throughout Erie). - A big thank you to an anonymous donor who generously covered the cost of the Paschal Candle that will be used at OLP starting at the Easter Vigil. It is also sometimes called the Easter Candle or Christ Candle. It is blessed at the Easter Vigil and then lit from the Easter Fire. We then light all of our candles off that candle as we enter the dark church and as the light spreads throughout the church on that Holy Night, it reminds us of that same light of Christ that breaks through this world of sin and darkness. The candle remains in the sanctuary next to the Ambo throughout the Easter Season and then is moved next to the baptismal font for the rest of the year. It is lit at baptisms and funerals throughout the rest of the year. New Flagon at Mass I thank Sr. Kathleen who procured a beautiful flagon from the Diocesan archives that we will be using at Masses at OLP moving forward. I also thank the Rosary Society who graciously paid for its replating. The flagon is the gold "pitcher" that is now part of the presentation of the gifts and is used for the wine for the presider's chalice. - Stations of the Cross will be held every Friday of Lent. A special thank you to the students from Our Lady of Peace School who are presenting "Living Stations" this week at 7pm. Confessions will be heard from 6-7pm before Stations. - Masses this Week Monday, March 2nd , Thursday, March 5 th and Friday, March 6th - Weekdays in Lent; Tuesday, March 3 rd - St. Katharine Drexel, Virgin (Philadelphian heiress and foundress of the Missionary Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, also established some 49 foundations); Wednesday, March 4th - St. Casimir (15th Century Polish prince who was called the "brother and defender of the poor"); Saturday, March 7th - Sts. Perpetua and Felicity, captured and killed in 203AD- part of the Roman Canon (Eucharistic Prayer I). - Presentation of the Gifts at Masses The ushers/greeters/ sacristans are always looking for individuals or families to help with the presentation of the gifts at the 5pm Saturday, and 7:30am, 9am, and 11am Masses on Sunday at OLP. It would be great if you would consider volunteering for this role (especially if you have never done it). On Sundays, approach the ushers before Mass and letting them know you are available to do it. On Saturdays, approach the sacristan in the sacristy to volunteer. If you are not sure who that is, just go to the sacristy where the priest and altar servers prepare for Mass and ask for the sacristan. This will be a help to those responsible for finding gift bearers at the Masses. - Cursillo Retreats "Cursillo (kur-SEE-yo) literally means "little course" and is an intense three-day spiritual retreat, the purpose of which is a deep personal encounter with Jesus Christ. Those who experience the Cursillo Movement know it is more than just three days of religious instruction. It's an effort to change the spiritual environment, to bring Jesus Christ into the world." This is a ministry for those who are unable to attend the usual parish functions; perhaps due to an impairment, lack of transportation or illness. This active ministry can be done from home, a nursing home, the hospital, etc. Those who participate are asked to pray for a specific group, ministry or function as the meeting, ministry or function is occurring. The Rosary of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary is prayed daily prior to the 12:10 Mass. Mary invites all her children to pray her Rosary. Also, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is prayed following the 12:10 Mass in the Chapel. All are welcome! Daily at 11:40AM.
