Masses are televised on CTV: Catholic Television of the Diocese of Scranton live Monday thru Friday at 12:10 p.m. and rebroadcast at 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and live on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and rebroadcast at 10:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Masses are also available through our social media channels.

Dear Friends, A few weeks ago, I announced adjustments to the weekday and weekend mass schedule at Immaculate Conception Church. Starting this weekend, July 4th and 5th, the weekend and weekday mass schedule will be adjusted. The 10:30 am Sunday mass at Immaculate Conception Parish has moved to 8:30 and the 8 am daily mass will be celebrated on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I realize that many were surprised by these changes, so I want to take the opportunity to walk you through how we arrived at these adjustments and the reasons for making them. Over the past several months, our Parish Pastoral Council, staff, and religious education volunteers and parents have been discussing the possibility of making adjustments to the daily and weekend mass schedules. First, the topic of religious education and Sunday obligations were discussed. We decided that a helpful way forward for our religious education families was to provide an earlier mass time that preceded Religious Education, allowing Sunday afternoon sports and school activities to take place unaffected by mass and Religious Education obligations. Beginning this Fall, Religious Education classes will begin at 9:30, immediately following the 8:30 am mass. Clergy personnel and availability were also discussed by Pastoral Council and parish staff. Monsignor Rupert will turn 75 this Fall, which is retirement age for priests in the Diocese of Scranton. Even though Monsignor Rupert will generously remain with us once he reaches retirement age, as the demands throughout the Diocese increase, we have to make sure that all of the Sunday masses between both parishes can be celebrated by one priest. We currently have 24 masses per week between the Cathedral and Immaculate Conception, which doesn't count nearly 60 funerals per year nor 20 weddings per year. Our ongoing pastoral planning in the Scranton Deanery will consider the distribution of clergy in the Diocese of Scranton and continue making adjustments for the number of available clergy over the next few years. These driving factors will necessitate ongoing planning and adjustments based on the growing demand here and throughout the Diocese of Scranton. I realize that change is difficult. As we make these adjustments, it is important for both parish communities to remember that our linkage still provides seven weekend masses and multiple options for daily mass. I remarked at mass that weekend that these adjustments are ultimately my decision as pastor of both parishes.
