Deacon Jeff's Message

On this 250th birthday of our great country, Happy 4th of July! It is my hope you can enjoy all this celebration offers without aoina overboard! 😊 I am old enough to remember the bicentennial in 1976 (I was in high school) and the many celebrations there were locally, as well as on television. My recollection was that everything was a lot of fun, and that the love that most everyone had for our country showed so brilliantly. I wonder: Do we still feel the same about the country in which we sing, "God bless America, land that I love"? Maybe it's my age, but I don't think there is the same love of our country as when I was growing up. Over the past 50 years, attendance at churches of all denominations has dropped dramatically. Prayer in public draws questioning reactions when it is witnessed. It seems God is slowly fading and even pushed away from our lives. What can be done? Please allow me to offer a few suggestions. When you are out to eat any meal, pause and thank God for the food you about to receive and reflect on how blessed you are to not have concerns about starvation, lack of water, heat, etc. Second, take time every day to thank God, even if it seems everything is spiraling in the wrong direction. The conveniences we have in our country are second to none, and we can always be grateful for the blessings we enjoy. Just maybe, we can include God much more in our lives, and if we do, I suggest when we celebrate the 300th birthday of the United States, we will be a much closer knit and grateful people!
