A Message from Our Pastor
On this Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time we once again receive the consoling invitation from Jesus: "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."
Fr. Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange, the Dominican theologian and spiritual writer, wrote this:
"If in Holy Communion we learn meekness and humility from the divine Master, together with zeal for the glory of God and the salvation of souls, we will find refreshment for our souls according to Jesus' promise. We will find an orderly peace and tranquility; we will realize a harmony of soul which, when fully subject to God, will receive his vivifying influence; there will be a harmony of body and soul, of the senses and the spirit. We will find peace and will be able to give it to others."
What we really need is not just rest, but time that is filled with meaning and purpose – time that is filled with the grace of God. As we receive Holy Communion today and always, may we know the healing love that only God can give to us!
This July 4th weekend is a historic year as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of our country. Our bishops have led us in the consecration of the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We prayed the prayer of consecration together at our Masses on the weekend following the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Everyone is encouraged to enthrone an image of the Sacred Heart in your home and to consecrate yourself or your family to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Please take time this weekend to visit the St. Jude room across from the chapel for a few moments of prayer where we have the enshrinement to offer prayers of thanksgiving for the freedom we share to practice our faith and for peace in our country and around the world.
