St. Michael is excited to announce a partnership with our new youth apostolate program, Serviam. This program will serve all high school and middle school students starting this Fall. The program will consist of three initiatives and be led by Allan DeLeon (high school site coordinator) and Caleb Shaver (middle school site coordinator). Serviam: Weekly youth gatherings to foster prayer, community and service. Nights will include fellowship, dinner, Adoration, small group bible study, faithful catholic mentors and service projects. The gatherings will be held on Wednesday nights for both high school and middle school students, however, they will meet separately. We warmly invite all high school and middle school students, including those who have already been confirmed. No fee will be required. Family Night: Monthly formation to empower parents as primary educators of the faith. Gatherings will be held on Wednesday nights at the end of each month. Nights will include light bites, key note speakers, parent Q&A, Adoration, Confession, and the Rosary. Confirmation Capstone: Upon completing a year of Serviam (required), high school students will be eligible to enroll in this 8-week Confirmation preparation program. These sessions will focus on doctrinal formation and the program will include one retreat. A fee will be required. WHY SHOULD I BAPTIZE MY CHILD? Baptism is the foundation of the Christian life. Through this sacrament, we are freed from sin, reborn as children of God, and welcomed into the Church. It is a sacred responsibility and a beautiful beginning to a life of faith. WHEN DO CHILDREN RECEIVE FIRST HOLY COMMUNION AND FIRST RECONCILIATION? WHAT ABOUT ADULTS? Children typically receive their First Communion around age seven or eight, after participating in religious education and sacramental preparation. Adults preparing to enter the Church receive First Communion through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), along with Baptism and Confirmation, usually at the Easter Vigil. IS CONFIRMATION JUST FOR TEENAGERS? While many Catholics receive Confirmation during their teen years, adults who were never confirmed are encouraged to complete this important sacrament.
